TM
vs. ®
Trademark rights are acquired by the proper, continuous use of a
trademark. A trademark that has not been registered with the United
States Patent Trademark Office is noted with a TM symbol. Registered
trademarks are noted with a ® symbol. Although specific permission is
not required for referential use, UFAF does request that you use its
trademarks and registered trademarks correctly and refer to them
properly. Proper reference includes marking them with the appropriate
trademark symbol (® or TM). You should refer to the full product name
and mark UFAF’s trademark(s) completely at the first and most prominent
reference, or as soon as practical thereafter.

Titles
UFAF does not review or specifically grant permission to use its
trademarks in facility, video or book titles, series titles, web site
titles, or other titles. Publishers should consult their own legal
counsel regarding proper referential use of others' trademarks in their
titles. Titles that refer to UFAF trademarks are generally appropriate
so long as the UFAF trademark does not appear as the first word or
otherwise as the most prominent part of the title.
e.g., proper use in a school name:

General Logo Usage
UFAF-member CKD schools may use the logos and images belonging to UFAF
for the promotion of martial arts training under a CKD instructor(s) as
outlined below. If for any reason the school’s or school owner’s

equipment, or clothing bearing a UFAF trademark or logo must be approved
